Canon Lens Repair Manual 70-200

I dropped my Canon 70-200 F/2.8L (non-IS). Although it seems to focus accurately and the optics seem fine, the zoom ring is stuck.

The outer zoom grip is broken. Canon at first wanted $273 to repair the lens, then changed its mind and wanted $1,200. I tried to explain that cost is more than the lens is worth and that I could buy one in better condition for less money than the repair cost. They would not budge and would not repair just the zoom ring. Gobliins 2 Cd Download.

Canon Lens Repair Manual

So, I have the lens back now and have decided to open it up and try to do as much of the work as possible. Can someone recommend a YouTube or other video, Web site or other source of do-it-yourself Canon 70-200 repair information? After opening it up, I see no damage to anything except the beige outer housing that contains the AF/Manual switch and that damage is not enough to render the lens unusable. Even after I removed the zoom barrel, it would only turn, maybe, an eighth of a cycle. I need to go back now and figure out how to get at the two-piece gear mechanism and see if I could, order a new gear assembly and get this working again.

Of course, I will probably need to order a ribbon cable or two (pulled a couple loose in the disassembly), a screw (lost) and figure out where the ribbon cables re-attach. I will also consider selling it for parts. Optically and in AF, it is excellent. Assuming you haven't found these already. 1 - the parts manual isn't a step-by-step service manual, but it's 'exploded views' and part # ID is very helpful. 2 - This brave soul has documented his disassembly of the EF 70-200 f/2.8L: There are a couple time-lapse videos on youtube of disassembly/reassembly of 70-200 f/2.8L and IS, but they go by too quickly to be a good DIY guide.

Came into this thread late, otherwise I would have recommended these people; They have the 70-200 f/2.8 repair manual for purchase.

If you are going to disassemble this is a must! If you have torn any of the flex ribbons, then you may get lucky sourcing them, but often they only come attached to the unit they serve (aperture unit, AF unit etc.). In the UK you could buy most of the parts off the parts list for current lenses through Canon, but note that once you get to a certain level of dissassembly you need specialist equipment to do some of the re-calibration (centering and tilt of some groups). You could do the repair and just send it in for calibration I guess.
