In 1984 I saw Marion open for James Blood Ulmer and it made me wonder if they had any previous connection, as at that show Marion's free-jazz blowing really had nothing in common with Ulmer's 'harmolodic' funk-rock (he was showcasing the great 'Odyssey' album at the time). The somewhat 'On the Corner'-esque jams on this album album fit the pieces together a little. It was recorded in New York and one of the guitarists, Billy 'Spaceman' Patterson was featured on a previous Ulmer album (and also did some genre-hopping later with the likes of LL Cool J, Big Daddy Kane & Teddy Pendergrass).
